It’s getting to be that time of the year! The fall foliage is beautiful... until it ends up stockpiled on your lawn. When leaves overtake your yard, they trap moisture in the ground that will prevents your lawn from growing – adding a brownish tint to the grass that likely won’t be aesthetically pleasing come spring.
If you are new to maintaining a yard, or readying your home for a sale, here are a few tips to ensure a leaf-free lawn.
The Right Rake
The most traditional way to remove leaves from your lawn is by rake, but did you know there’s now specific models that make it easier? Your local home improvement store should have a variety of rakes in stock – ranging from different sizes (30 inches in typically the largest) to different styles. Look for a “no clog” rake with specially designed tines that don’t trap leaves.
Leaf Blower
If you have a larger yard, you may want to considering purchasing a leaf blower to make the process quicker, easier and more efficient. But make sure to rid your lawn of twigs, branches or mulch before you begin blowing for these objects can get trapped in the repeller and damage the machine. Most leaf blowers are powered by a gas/oil mixture.
Vacuum
Want to go a step above a blower? Try out a leaf-vac, which collects leaves inside of an attached bag instead of only blowing them across your lawn. And it sucks them up fast, especially around shrubs, flower beds, outdoor decks, pools, garages, sheds and other areas that are difficult to rake.
Tarp Collector
The leaves you rake/blow have to go somewhere, right? There are several ways you can get rid of your leaves. A trash bag works, but a way to save money is by using a leaf-collector tarp. The tarp can fit way more leaves than a single bag, and can be easily dragged around your yard without tearing apart. And, it’s reusable. No need go purchase another one!
Until next time!
